It is no surprise to me that Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) has tried to put its own spin on things after Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim congratulated C Joseph Vijay on his appointment as Tamil Nadu chief minister.
PSM’s deputy chairperson S Arutchelvan quickly said that Vijay should avoid disappointing supporters in the same manner Pakatan Harapan did in Malaysia.
In a report carried by a local news portal, he did admit that there are striking similarities between PH’s rise and that of Vijay, as neither won an outright victory and has needed to team up with defeated foes to form a government.
I would like to suggest that PSM also learn from Vijay. Perhaps they can start by not losing all their deposits and winning seats instead.
The mosquito party hasn’t had any electoral victories since it stopped contesting under the PKR logo. In fact in the 2018 election, it contested 19 parliamentary and state seats and enjoyed a complete whitewash.
That pattern was repeated in the 2022 general election and despite subsequent attempts to team up with Muda and other similarly small parties, it has remained in the doldrums.
While we welcome the calls for more reform, a call shared by Vijay and Pakatan Harapan, we recognise the role of a mandate in carrying out these changes.
Perhaps PSM is used to not getting the vote of confidence from the people and merely claiming it as if it is a divine right.

PSM is good-hearted but still only appeals to one race. Barely growing.
Muda is getting just as bad.
And PRM is even worse.
Pick on someone your own size!
Arul, rebrand PSM and turn it into an NGO. You are a lousy politician.
Yes agreed PSM should learn how to win seats. But that does not mean our views are not important. We have brought about much reform on workers rights, human rights and policies. Some implemented and some still fighting. But losing deposits is not as bad as losing principles. I m just responding bcos someone send this to me.
That’s the problem with PSM. Endless speeches about principles, reforms and “fighting on” but very little actual influence on policy. If your ideas are truly connecting with rakyat, it should translate into support at the ballot box too.
Nobody is asking you to lose principles. People are asking why, after all these years, the impact still sounds bigger in press statements than in Parliament. Telling the CM of Tamil Nadu not to be like PMX is laughable when the latter has done a lot to impact the nation since he took over reigns.
Arul and PSM are good people. But the system is weighted against them.
1. widespread ignorance about socialism
2. first past the post system
3. dominated by Indians
They should try and mend fences with PKR and DAP instead of cosying up to that useless Muda party.
Arul nak bagi nasihat? Aku tergelak sebab takde manusia di dunia yang boleh play victim macam siArul.
Is this website dekapital … or Das Kapital?
What kind of website is this? Just created to attack PSM?
You guys suck!
