The Madani govt has come under increasing pressure to working towards proper closure in case of Teoh Beng Hock, the political aide who died during an interrogation by the MACC.
The death of Beng Hock in 2009 remains one of Malaysia’s most troubling unresolved cases, and it is one of many that occurred under the Barisan Nasional (BN) administration.
The investigations, institutional decisions, and systemic failures tied to his death originated within the structures and political environment of that era.
So if there were cover-ups and destruction of evidence, the sad truth is that is happened many years ago.
His case is not the only unresolved matter from the BN era. Malaysia continues to grapple with the disappearances of Pastor Raymond Koh and Amri Che Mat, the unresolved questions surrounding the murder of Altantuya Shaariibuu, Kevin Morais and the Ambank founder Najadi.
Not to forget the global mystery of MH370.
The same period also saw the highly publicised Indira Gandhi child conversion case. Although the Federal Court delivered a clear and final judgment awarding custody to Indira and ordering the police to locate her abducted daughter, the key challenge remains the inability to track down the convert-husband who absconded with the child.
This failure is rooted in shortcomings dating back to the time of the disappearance, and the difficulty of tracing an individual who has evaded authorities for more than a decade cannot be fairly attributed to the current administration.
All these cases lack closure not because of any inaction by the present government, but because they originated under previous administrations and were shaped by investigative decisions and enforcement gaps at the time.
Yes it’s very likely that the damage was done during the BN era.
Crimes were covered up.
Perpetrators were protected.
But c’mon we need to show political will to reform our law enforcement. Otherwise it is just a joke.
So convenient to blame BN for everything!
Clean up the police force!
Aren’t they the root cause of all our problems? Corruption, racism, patronage politics, brain drain.
You name it, BN is behind it
